For the Christmas concert (The “Night Before the Night Before” on December 23rd) the main work will be Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel.
Probably composed in 1690, the Messe de Minuït pour Noël, H 9, is perhaps Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s best-known composition after the Te Deum, H 146. The special appeal of this “Mass for the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve” lies in its use of no fewer than ten traditional French carols while impressively revealing Charpentier’s mastery of the concertante style.
This lovely work will be combined with our traditional selection of carols and some seasonal instumental pieces.
The choir will feature several choral scholars from Victoria to sing solo parts and will be accompanied by a the Contrasto Armonico string baroque quintet and baroque flute.
This will be a relaxing and traditional way to start your family's Christmas celebrations.
